On Wednesday we were joined for the day by local actor and theatre teacher, Luke Osborne. In the morning, Luke led a group of volunteers in exploring ways to make their storytelling using children’s books engaging to even the most reluctant of listeners. He shared ways to engage children who were shy and maybe unused to the idea of sharing stories in a book. He also demonstrated ways to bring out the fun in books using voices and movement, and suggesting play and craft activities that can be done as follow on or even while the book is being shared with a child.
In the afternoon, Luke joined the family group and read two books with an underwater theme to the children. We then all took part in a making session inspired by these books and the children were proud to take home their creations.
